Take Transforming Action

“For the first time in human evolution, the individual life is long enough, and the cultural transformation swift enough, that the individual mind is now a constituent player in the global transformation of human culture.” – William Irwin Thompson

If we want changes to occur in our world, it will begin with the central figure in our world–(place your name here.)
We all have goals. Some are more ambitious than others. One man desires a 72-inch plasma screen TV, while another covets the mastery of the tango, while yet another desires to touch lives on all 7 continents. Some desire wealth to be comfortable, while other desire wealth to provide comfort. In this time of tumultuous change and a clear economic, social and spiritual “correction” around the planet, power has been reclaimed by the individual to once again take the role of heroes in their spheres of influence. The everyday person can save a young man from a life of delinquency. A grandmother can usher dozens of foster kids through her home and onto college. You might donate your time to a cause that is meaningful, or commit to launch that business you’ve had in your heart for years.
The truth is, we need people like you. This nation wasn’t built on ease and entitlement. It was carved out of the collaborative grind of millions of individuals who saw themselves as a contributor to all that is great about this country. Time has proven that no matter how you ended up on this land, you can make it your land if you will transform your mind.
Can you see it?
It’s not a trick question, but it is a call to an ancient text: walk by faith, not by sight.
What’s the difference? Faith sees what your physical eyes cannot. Faith exceeds the circumstance and fills us with the creative power to be the architect of our lives. With faith we see beyond economic conditions, political posturing, wars and social unrest to the possibilities of our time. We can transform our world by taking transformative action.
Sure you could start a business, take advantage of the lower cost of advertising right now. You have an opportunity to be very profitable even during a challenging time like this. But the aim is not more prosperity, that is an inevitable outcome of doing things in an excellent manner…..the goal is to move the soul to overflow into the world–the ethnos– and influence the culture. As the soul prospers in this way, wealth will be attracted to that soul who blesses the world.
Here are just a few ways we all can take transformative action in our circle of influence, and beyond:
* Make a friend from another faith
* Start a conversation with someone you disagree with and seek only to learn from them
* Reconnect with family (not on MySpace or Facebook..in person)
* Serve at your local Red Cross
* Volunteer at a homeless shelter or soup kitchen (you’ll be surprised who you see there)
* Mentor someone…anyone
* Beautify your living space, then help someone beautify theirs
* Walk down a street and drop quarters in the parking meters (trust me…in Chicago THAT’s a transformative action)
It may seem like you’re doing a small thing, but remember that there are no small acts of love. By just touching one life you may be impacting thousands.
So do something today….act now.
